Clock in from the Lock Screen: Sqyre Team’s widget that starts the day

Clock in from the Lock Screen: Sqyre Team’s widget that starts the day

The Team clock widget sits on the Lock Screen. Tap to clock in. Hours stay in step with the office, even when the first save fails.

The simple idea

Hours die in the gap between “I started” and a system that can pay you. A group text is not a timesheet. A notebook in the van is not a timesheet.

Sqyre Team ships a clock widget. Lock Screen copy says tap to clock in. If you are signed out, it says sign in to Sqyre Team. That is the whole habit: one tap, then drive.

If you had to explain it to a new helper, you would say this. Before the van moves, punch in. When the last hose is coiled, punch out. Do not ask the owner to remember your day.

A normal weekday

A lawn lead adds the widget on Sunday night. Monday at 6:50am he clocks in from the lot without opening Messages. Routes already has the fist of houses. GPS can show Hub he is moving.

At 4:10pm the signal in a back subdivision is poor. He clocks out anyway. Team finishes the punch even if the first save fails. Tuesday payroll is not a reconstruction from memory.

Why the widget belongs on the Lock Screen

Apps you have to hunt do not get used at 6:50am. The Lock Screen is where weather, music, and now the clock live. Put the punch where thumbs already go.

Apple’s widget is not a gimmick here. It is how a two person crew stops arguing about who started when. The office sees the same clock.

Hours, time zone, currency

Profile in Team uses the company’s currency and time zone. A tech who lives across a state line should not see punches in the owner’s kitchen clock. Payslips sit next to timesheets so Friday is a document, not a vibe.

This is boring on purpose. Boring payroll is how people stay.

The queue and the punch

Field phones fail. Basements fail. Rural roads fail. A clock that only works on cafe Wi-Fi is a toy. Team’s offline queue is why a refused “move to today” should not jam later punches, and why clock-out is written to survive a failed first save.

Read offline GPS and live ETA for the rest of that story.

What people get wrong

They let two techs share one Team login so they “do not have to buy another seat.” Then both punches are a fiction. Each person gets an account. Hub remains the owner app.

They also clock in from the couch and drive forty minutes. GPS will not save a shop that winks at that. Set the rule. The widget makes the honest punch easy. It does not make a dishonest shop honest.

If you are training someone this week

Stand in the lot. Watch them add the widget. Watch them clock in. Send them to the first stop. Watch them clock out at the shop.

The only sentence they are allowed to send about hours is this one. My punch is in Team. If they still text a screenshot of the van clock, start over.

How the widget stays honest

The widget is useless if the account is shared. Punch identity is the person. Hub can see crews. Team must see a human.

Clock-out that survives a failed save is not a nice-to-have. It is how Friday payroll stops being a reconstruction. The queue must drain punches in order without one rejected reschedule blocking the rest.

Location-aware arrivals are how a punch in the lot and a punch at the house stay distinct if you want them distinct. Set the rule in the shop. Software can help. Software cannot want integrity for you.

A week of punches

Monday add the widget. Tuesday punch in at the lot together. Wednesday punch out in a weak-signal street and confirm Hub saw it. Thursday open timesheets with the tech. Friday pay from the document, not from a fight.

If a tech hates the widget, find out whether they hate being seen or they hate a broken tap. Fix the tap. Do not fix the being seen by turning the clock off.

Pair it with Routes

A punch without a route is a day you cannot explain. Open Routes after the punch. Start job on the first card. The clock and the stop should agree about where the morning went.

What the widget should show

Signed out: sign in to Sqyre Team. Clocked out: tap to clock in. Clocked in: a way to open Team or punch out, depending on what you shipped. The copy on the widget should match the truth. A widget that lies about state is worse than no widget.

Breaks and lunch

If you track unpaid lunch, the punch needs a pause the shop agrees on. If you do not, do not invent one in a text. Write the rule. Software follows written rules better than vibe rules.

Overtime arguments

Overtime fights are usually “I started at” versus “the GPS says.” The widget plus GPS is how those fights get shorter. They do not disappear. Shorter is still cheaper.

Multiple crews

Two crews, two sets of punches, one Hub. Do not let crew B punch on crew A’s phone because “it was closer.” Identity is the point.

When the widget disappears

iOS will drop widgets after an app is offloaded. If a tech says the widget vanished, they offloaded Team to save space. Reinstall from the App Store. Photos of houses are not more important than the punch, but they will try to tell you otherwise.

Payroll export

Friday should be a document. Profile payslips. Office timesheets. If you still type hours into a spreadsheet from memory, you installed a clock and then ignored it. Stop ignoring it.

A lawn lead who punches and then drives to a cousin off the cluster still punched. Hub will see the pin. The widget did its job. The owner still has to refuse the pin.

A 14-day punch drill

Monday: add the widget. Tuesday: punch in at the lot together. Wednesday: punch out on a weak-signal street and confirm Hub saw it. Thursday: open timesheets with the tech. Friday: pay from the document. Week two: one tech who hated the widget, find out whether they hate being seen or they hate a broken tap. Fix the tap. Do not turn the clock off.

The numbers on one job

A missed quote on the owner phone is not a small miss. It is a house that hired the shop that answered. Hub and Team exist so the yes, the clock, and the photo happen on the stop, not tonight on the couch.

Where Sqyre holds the work

Sqyre Hub is the owner app. Sqyre Team is the crew app. Jason repeats the shop sentence. Scheduling, payments, and the mobile app page are the web map of the same system.

Questions people ask

faq

  • Does the widget work if I am logged out? — It tells you to sign in to Sqyre Team. Then it works.
  • Can I fake GPS? — The office sees location-aware check-ins. Do not build a hobby out of lying to the clock.
  • What if clock-out fails? — Team retries. The punch should still close. That bug ate real days. It is why the release notes mention it.
  • Do helpers share a login? — No. Each person clocks as themselves. Shared logins destroy timesheets.
  • Is this on Hub too? — Hub is the board. Team is the punch.

Before Friday

  1. Install the right app on the right phone.
  2. Run one real stop all the way to a photo or a payment.
  3. Delete the group text that used to be the board.
