Make Sqyre Hub the shop phone, not a second number in your pocket

Make Sqyre Hub the shop phone, not a second number in your pocket

Hub can be the Default Calling App. Calls, texts, hold, and notes stay on the client timeline. Stop mixing the shop with your personal recents.

The simple idea

A shop that runs on the owner’s personal cell will lose the shop when the owner loses the phone. Recents are not a CRM. Screenshots of recents are not a CRM either.

Sqyre Hub is built as a calling app on the identity Apple granted: Default Calling App on the Hub bundle. That is a real iOS capability, not a marketing line. Calls can belong to the shop.

If you had to explain it to a spouse, you would say this. Customers still dial the number on the invoice. The iPhone treats Hub as the phone for that work. The notes sit on the client, not in your head.

A normal weekday

An electrical owner taps Call on Hunter Menary in Hub. The in-call screen has notes and a clear on-hold state. He writes “panel photo coming, 200A, spouse deciding tonight.” He does not hang up and forget.

A missed call at lunch notifies. Jason can also take it. Either way, Timeline has the event. The next person who opens the client does not ask “did they call?”

Why Default Calling App matters

iOS will happily send shop taps to the personal Phone app. Then you have two recents, two voicemails, and a customer who thinks you ignored them because you looked at the wrong list.

Hub’s App Store identity carries Default Calling App. That is why owners should place and receive shop work in Hub. The web desk can show the same timeline. The truck wrap can keep the same digits.

Team can call too, on a leash

Sqyre Team can call or text a client from the company line when the office allows it. Those buttons show or hide as soon as the permission changes. A helper should not discover a homeowner’s number in their personal recents after they quit.

This is the adult version of “just call them.” The shop owns the conversation. The person is allowed to use it.

Notes during the call

The in-call screen in Team includes notes and hold. Hub’s client profile is where you start the call. The point is the same: write the leak while you hear it.

A spoken price with no note is how the spouse hears a different number at dinner. Put the range in the timeline. Send the quote from Hub before you coil the hose.

What people get wrong

They port the number and still answer with the personal SIM because it feels faster. Then Hub’s timeline is a museum. The fast way is the way that writes the record.

They also give every tech the owner’s cell. That is not flexibility. That is how a fired tech still has your customers.

If you are training someone this week

Make one real customer call from Hub today. Write one sentence of notes before you hang up. Tomorrow, open that client and show the new person the thread.

The only sentence they are allowed to say about phones is this one. Shop calls happen in Hub or Team. Personal recents are for family.

How calling sits on the client

The profile is the launchpad: message, call, mail, route. Starting a call from recents in the personal Phone app skips the launchpad. Then the notes have nowhere to live.

Default Calling App is Apple’s way of letting Hub win those taps. The Hub bundle on App Store Connect is the identity that carries it. That is why Hub is not “a website that can also dial.”

Missed calls notify. Notes exist on the in-call screen in the worker app and the timeline in Hub. Hold is a state, not a mystery silence. A customer who hears hold without a sentence will hang up and hire the next shop.

A week of moving the line

Monday confirm the shop number is the number on the wrap. Tuesday make Hub the calling app on the owner iPhone. Wednesday place every shop call from a client profile. Thursday stop answering shop work on the personal SIM. Friday delete the personal voicemail greeting that still says the shop name.

If a tech needs to call, turn the permission on in the office and let Team show the button. Do not text them the customer’s cell “just this once.” Once becomes the system.

What this protects

When a tech leaves, the company line stays. When a phone dies, the timeline stays. When a spouse asks what was promised, the thread stays. Personal recents protect none of that.

Porting versus forwarding

Porting puts the number on Sqyre Link or your voice stack. Forwarding leaves it at the carrier and dumps into Hub. Either can work. What cannot work is a third number on the truck wrap that nobody answers.

Tell customers nothing about the plumbing of the line. They keep dialing the digits they know. You keep answering in Hub.

Recents hygiene

Once a week, look at personal recents. If shop names appear, you cheated. Place those calls from Hub the next time. Shame is a good teacher if you keep it private.

Hold language

“I am putting you on hold to pull up the last invoice.” Then pull it up in Hub. Then come back. Hold without a sentence is how people hang up and type a one star about being ignored.

Missed call to ticket

A missed call that becomes a request is a recovered job. A missed call that stays in recents is a rumor. Notifications exist so you tap. Jason exists so you can miss it and still win.

Recording and notes

If you record, say so. If you only take notes, take them during the call. After-call notes are fiction. The in-call note field is there because driveways are loud and memory is proud.

Team calling permissions

A closer on the crew may deserve company line calling. A first-week helper may not. Change it. The button should vanish the same hour. If it does not, you have a bug. If you never change it, you have a policy problem.

Do not dual-wield SIMs as a strategy

A work eSIM plus Hub is fine. A work eSIM plus personal plus Hub plus Google Voice plus a leftover RingCentral number is how you miss everyone. Pick the shop line. Put it in Hub. Burn the rest.

Default Calling App, without the folklore

The in-call screen is for the leak, not for a pad of paper in the cup holder. Hold is a state with a sentence: “I am pulling up the last invoice.” Then pull it up in Hub. Then come back. Hold without a sentence is how people hang up and type a one star about being ignored.

Recents hygiene as a weekly ritual

Once a week, look at personal recents. If shop names appear, you cheated. Place those calls from Hub the next time. Shame is a good teacher if you keep it private.

Friday, delete the personal voicemail greeting that still says the shop name. That greeting is how a family call becomes a job and a job becomes a family argument.

Recording and notes

If you record, say so. If you only take notes, take them during the call. After-call notes are fiction. Driveways are loud. Memory is proud. The in-call field exists because of both.

A spoken price with no note is how the spouse hears a different number at dinner. Put the range in the timeline. Send the quote from Hub before you coil the hose.

A 14-day line move

Monday: confirm the wrap number is the shop number. Tuesday: make Hub the calling app on the owner iPhone. Wednesday: every shop call from a client profile. Thursday: stop answering shop work on the personal SIM. Friday: personal greeting is personal. Week two: one tech with company line permission, one tech without, prove the button hides.

The numbers on one job

A missed quote on the owner phone is not a small miss. It is a house that hired the shop that answered. Hub and Team exist so the yes, the clock, and the photo happen on the stop, not tonight on the couch.

Questions people ask

faq

  • Do customers get a new number? — No. Keep the line they already saved.
  • Can Hub place the call? — Yes. From the client profile, on the shop line.
  • What about FaceTime audio? — The shop call belongs in Hub so the timeline stays honest.
  • Can a tech call from Team? — If the office allows it. The button hides when you turn the permission off.
  • Why not just use the iPhone phone app? — Because then the call never lands on the client record.

Before Friday
